How do i take the closed caption off of my tv?

I have a Magnavox SmartSeries tv but do not have the original remote to it. I also do not have a universal remote but do have a dish satelite remote to it. It is the satelite that does not have a DVR to it. I have tried everything but I can not get the closed caption off of the tv. The satelite remote will not work the menu to the tv it will only work the menu to the satelite so the only way i can get into the menu is to hit both of the volume keys at once and then the only language choice it has is english or spanish.
